Elevated official travel advice
Exercise high caution and exclude northern border warning zones
Norway advises against non-essential travel within 40 kilometres of the Burkina Faso border. The United Kingdom advises against all but essential travel to Bawku Municipality, while Australia advises a high degree of caution across Ghana because of violent crime and applies higher levels in the Upper East, Upper West and northern border areas. This edition excludes the warned border zone, Bawku, informal border routes, demonstrations, isolated beaches and all night roads. Use confirmed Intercity STC services, licensed vehicles or flights, protect valuables, carry the required yellow-fever documentation and allow for poor roads, limited rescue services and rain-season flooding. Strong Atlantic currents, uncertain coastal water quality and bilharzia risk in freshwater require conservative water access.
