Walk the historic islands around Notre-Dame

Enter the restored Notre-Dame, then walk the two central Seine islands from the quiet eastern memorial to Pont Neuf and the water-level tip of Vert-Galant.

Begin at Notre-Dame's renewed west front and enter quietly beneath the rebuilt roof, letting stone, light and the sound of an active cathedral set the pace. Circle behind the apse to the eastern memorial, cross the pedestrian Pont Saint-Louis and follow calm quays. Return west across Île de la Cité until Vert-Galant places the river on both sides.

Cathedral entry is free, while an official time slot can reduce waiting; security screening and worship always take precedence. Check current opening hours and avoid arriving during major services unless attending them. Dress respectfully, keep the memorial visit silent and treat both islands as lived neighbourhoods rather than a chain of photo stops.
