Cycle between the great châteaux of the Loire Valley

Ride quiet lanes and signed cycleways between Chambord, Amboise and Chenonceau, letting the river, vineyards and towns connect the royal monuments.

Best timeApril — OctoberDuration3–5 daysEnergyModerate

Leave Blois toward Chambord through level farmland and forest, arriving at the château on two wheels rather than through a coach park. Continue west through river towns and vineyards toward Amboise, then follow the Cher to Chenonceau where the gallery crosses the water before the route finishes in Tours.

Three days can link the headline châteaux, but four or five allow gardens, markets and shorter stages. Reserve château entry in busy months, check bicycle carriage rules before boarding regional trains, and use luggage transfer or panniers so the route remains a journey rather than a race.
