Rise above Chamonix to the Aiguille du Midi

Climb by cable car from Chamonix to 3,842 metres, stepping from the valley into a severe world of glaciers, rock spires and close views of Mont Blanc.

Best timeYear-round, weather permittingDuration3–4 hoursEnergyEasy, high altitude

The first cable-car stage rises through forest to Plan de l’Aiguille; the second makes a dramatic unsupported climb toward the rock station. Tunnels and terraces then open onto the Vallée Blanche, serrated Alpine summits and Mont Blanc, with each platform changing the balance between rock, ice and sky.

Book a morning slot but keep the day flexible because wind and cloud can stop operations. Even in summer bring warm layers, sunglasses and sunscreen. Move slowly at altitude, allow time to acclimatise on the lower terraces and descend if headache, nausea or dizziness develops.
