Ride into the Camargue among white horses and flamingos

Pair a small, welfare-conscious horseback ride through Camargue marshland with slow observation of flamingos and other waterbirds at Pont de Gau.

Best timeMarch — June and September — NovemberDurationFull dayEnergyEasy–moderate

Ride out from a traditional manade with a guide who can explain the horses, cattle and managed water rather than merely lead a beach gallop. Later, walk the hides and reed-fringed paths at Pont de Gau as flamingos feed in the shallows; the flat landscape becomes most expressive when the wind eases and evening light spreads across the lagoons.

Choose a licensed stable that matches horses to rider ability, limits group size, provides helmets and demonstrates good hoof, tack and rest practices. Never chase wildlife or approach breeding areas. Bring binoculars, insect protection and water, remain on marked reserve paths and favour dawn, late afternoon or the cooler shoulder seasons.
