Hike and sail through the Calanques between Marseille and Cassis

Walk from Cassis through pine and limestone to En-Vau, then see the same narrow inlets from sea level on a regulated boat or kayak route.

Best timeOctober — May for hikingDurationFull dayEnergyDemanding

Start early at Port-Miou and follow the marked path beyond Port-Pin, where smooth pale rock drops into intensely blue water. The descent toward En-Vau is rougher and makes the beach feel enclosed by a stone amphitheatre; returning by the ridges reveals how tightly the coves cut into the coast.

Treat October to May as the dependable hiking season. From June through September, fire danger can close the massif with little notice, so check the national park alert on the same day. Carry all drinking water, stay on marked paths and use an authorised operator for any sea excursion.
