Current official travel advice
Exercise a high degree of caution and check road access immediately before travel
Official advice highlights violent crime, civil unrest, demonstrations and roadblocks that can change routes without notice. The United Kingdom advises against all but essential travel to Chapare, including Villa Tunari and routes 4 and 24. Altitude illness, flooding, landslides, unsafe night roads and informal transport require conservative choices. This edition excludes Chapare while that advice remains, demonstrations, attempts to cross roadblocks, unlicensed taxis, buses or boats and avoidable night driving. Remote salt-flat, mountain and forest routes require recognised operators, dependable vehicles, communications, spare water and realistic evacuation plans.
